Oral Research Presentation at The International Conference on Sustainable Global Agricultural and Food Security (ICSAF2014)

 

Mr Panuphong Bangkha, Ms Alisa Chaisamaung, and Ms Wimolsiri Thanachan presented their Bachelor thesis research in the title "Characterization and Purification of Cellulase enzyme produced by Bacillus MSB12" at ICSAF2014. This project is under supervision of Dr. Malinee Sriariyanun (CPE lecturer) and Associate Professor Sopa Klinchan (Department of Biotachnology, KMUTNB). Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to our funding agency, NCRT and DPST for supporting our project.

 

 

Mr Kraiwit Pranneau presented his research in the title "Effect of diluted ionic liquid on pretreatment of rice straw prior to enzymatic saccharification" at ICSAF2014. This project is under supervision of Dr. Malinee Sriariyanun (CPE lecturer) and Associate Professor Kraipat Cheenkachorn (Head of Department of Chemical Engineering, KMUTNB). Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to our funding agency, NCRT and DPST for supporting our project.

Ms Wawat Rodiahwati presented her research in the title "Optimization of alkaline soaking and screw press pretreatment of wheat straw for application in biofuel production" at ICSAF2014. Ms Wawat is one of our student that has been awarded the DAAD scholarship to study at TGGS-CPE. She also had a good opportunity to persue her internship at HÄNDLE GmbH, Mühlacker, Germany, and her Master thesis at AVT, RWTH Aachen University. This project is under supervision of Dr. Malinee Sriariyanun (CPE lecturer) and Professor Michael Modigell (Head of AVT, RWTH Aachen University). Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to our funding agency, RWTH Aachen University for supporting this grant under "Seed Fund Project".


TGGS International Day and New Year Party 2014

CPE students joined the TGGS International Day and New Year party 2014 on December 24, 2013.  It is time again that TGGS lecturers, staffs and students from all the programs got together to celebrate the coming New Year in a cozy and delightful atmosphere. As usual, we enjoyed ourselves with mini-games, quizzes, lucky draw, and international foods. This year, we had a lot of Asian foods, as well as European foods made by the students.

  

 

 

 

Block Lecture and Industrial Workshop in December 2013 by Prof. Pfennig

For the academic year of 2013, we were honored to have Prof. Dr. Univ. Andreas Pfennig, the head of Institute of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology at Graz University of Technology, Austria to give the block lecture in Introduction to Separation Processes from December 16-18, 2013. Then, Prof. Pfennig provided an industrial workshop in the topic of Design of Gravity Settlers based on Single-Drop Experiments and Simulation from December 19-20, 2013. Also, this time we have Ms. Pornprapa Chuttrakul and Dipl.-Ing. Jan Bernd Bol, Ph.D. assistants of Prof. Pfennig to give tutorials to students.

 

After the Block Lecture, TGGS-CPE students took Prof. Pfennig on a mini boat trip to sightsee a Thai local life and culture at Sampharn, Nakhon Pathom province. They also visited Don Wai market and Samphran Elephant Ground & Zoo. It was a wonderful and memorable trip for everyone.

 

  

 

 

Special Lecture by Industrial Experts from SCG Chemicals

After a successful launch of the new coursework's improvement activity to strengthen the practical knowledge of our students by inviting industrial expert from related industry to demonstrate how to apply theoretical knowledge to the real work. This semester we are honored to have Dr. Khavinet and Dr.Alisa, industrial experts in process design and process development from SCG Chemicals, a subsidiary of the Siam Cement Group (SCG), to give a special lecture as a part of chemical process design course in the topic "Innovative Process Design in Petrochemical Industry ". Our students enjoyed the special lectures and learn some hand-on knowledge and tips for designing a chemical process. 

 

 

TGGS-CPE 2013 Students Go for Thesis in Austria

This year, we are pleased that our three students: Ms. Kamonrat Leeheng, Ms. Chanita Tantijamnan, and Ms. Pruchyamas Punsang went to Austria for doing the Master Thesis at Institute of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology, Graz University of Technology from October 2013 to April 2014 under supervision of Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Pfennig.  

 

 

Walk-up TGGS Building 2013

The 2013 CPE students walked up the stairs at the TGGS building from the first floor to the top as our tradition on October 9, 2013. Along the away, the new students played mini-games with the senior students at 3 different floors including the CPE program at the 10th floor. These mini-games helped them get to know each other well. The lecturers, RAs and students really enjoyed the activities together.  After the walk, the new students attended CPE orientation held by Dr. Tawiwan to introduce the program and learn many important information. 

  

  

 

Award Winning from The 25th Annual Meeting of The Thai Society for Biotechnology and International Conference (TSB2013, 16-19 Oct 2013)    

Ms. Passanee Thongtawee won the best poster award from her research presentation in title "The application of microwave pretreatment processes in boosting biogas production from water hyacinth". This project is under supervision of Dr. Malinee Sriariyanun (CPE lecturer) and Associate Professor Kraipat Cheenkachorn (Head of Department of Chemical Engineering, KMUTNB). Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to our funding agency, RWTH Aachen University for supporting this grant under "Seed Fund Project".

 

TGGS-CPE Special Lecture by Prof. Dr. Goran Jonanovic  

With a well-support from PTT, TGGS-CPE organized a special lecture by Prof. Dr. Goran Jovanovic in a topic of “From Innovation to Commercialization” on April 2, 2013. Prof. Dr. Goran Jovanovic is Professor of Chemical Engineering from School of Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering, Oregon State University, USA. He is also Associate Director of Microproducts Breakthrough Institute. The lecture received much attention from industrial experts as well as academic staff and students. This activity will increase our linkage with industries and other academic institutes.

 

 

DEDE-KU Special Seminar

Asst. Prof. Dr. Tawiwan and all the first-year CPE students attended DEDE-KU Special Seminar on “Standards of Tire used in Thailand " at Twin Tower Hotel, Bangkok on March 29, 2013. This activity is a part of the preparation for internship and research projects. The students learned good practices and how to make a professional presentation from the real seminar.

 

TGGS-CPE Safety Training and Big Cleaning Day

Prior starting the experiments in the laboratory, TGGS-CPE Students must attend the safety training and understand all procedure and precaution related to the chemicals and equipments.  This training was on March 27, 2013 in the afternoon.  After the training, the TGGS lecturers, staffs and students from many years had spent couple hours in that afternoon and continued on March 29, 2013 to clean our workshops and laboratories to start off the Thai New Year.  Little exercise was good for us and got us ready for the pizza.

   

 

 

Prof. Melin Block Lecture in March of 2013

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Melin from the former Chair of Chemical Process Engineering gave a block lecture in topic of Membrane Processes from March 4-12, 2013. This was his fourth time at TGGS-CPE.   Also, Dipl.-Ing. Thomas Harlacher, his Ph.D. assistant gave the tutorial sessions to our students.

Addition to TGGS-CPE 2011 and 2012 students, M.S. students from Chemical Engineering department in the Faculty of Engineering, students and lecturers from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang and employees from Bayer Thai, PTT Research and Technology Institute, PTT Global Chemicals and SCG Chemicals had been participated in his block lecture.

 

During the block lectures, Prof. Melin visited German companies Bayer Thai in Bang Poo Industrial Estate and BASF in Amata Industrial Estate to seek for the collaborations in the internship program and research on March 12, 2013.  This will strengthen our TGGS-CPE program.

 

Besides the academic, Prof. Melin, Mr. Harlacher, Dr. Tawiwan and TGGS-CPE students took a Boat Trip to Sri Chang Island in Chonburi Province on March 9, 2013.  We visited many places such as Chinese temple known as Saan Chao Pho Khao Yai, or Shrine of the Father Spirit of the Great Hill, Garden, the summer residence of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), the Judhadhut Palace and Tham Phang Beach. In evening, Prof. Melin and Mr. Harlacher also enjoyed the scenery along the Pattaya Beach with Dr. Tawiwan and TGGS-CPE students and very nice dinner. 

  

 

 

Industrial Workshop on Fundamentals of Air Pollution Control

In addition to the Block Lecture, Prof. Modigell gave the industrial workshop in Fundamentals of Air Pollution Control on February 22, 2013. This workshop had well received from PTT Public Company Limited, Research and Technology Institute.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Modigell from the Chair of Mechanical Process Engineering gave a block lecture in topic of Fundamental of Rheology from February 18-21, 2013. This was his fifth time at TGGS-CPE and second time for giving this lecture.   Also, Dipl.-Ing. Matthias Kalkert, his Ph.D. assistant gave the tutorial sessions to our students.

Addition to TGGS-CPE 2011 and 2012 students and employees from Bayer Thai, PTT Research and Technology Institute, PTT Global Chemicals, SCG Chemicals and Thai Polyethylene co., Ltd. had been participated in his block lecture.

 

Prof. Modigell, Mr. Kalkert and Ms. Nowik had joined the dinner banquet for the 54th anniversary of King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok on February 19, 2013.

  

TGGS-CPE 2012 Students Go for Thesis in Austria

There were 3 TGGS-CPE students went to Austria for the MS Thesis at Institute of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology, Graz University of Technology from November 2012 to June 2013 under supervision of Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Pfennig.  Mr. Itsaranuwat Aunyindee and Mr. Nuttakul Mungma will be working on the area of phase separation whereas Mr. Sittipat Tongrungroj in the plant material extraction. 

  

  

Special Lecture by an Industrial Expert from PTT Group

CPE program has launched a new coursework's activity to strengthen the practical knowledge of our students. This semester we invited Dr.Thana, an industrial expert from PTT group (the largest energy company in Thailand), to give a special lecture on selected energy topics for our elective course "Energy technology for chemical engineer". This two-classes special lecture helped our students to realize how engineers/researchers work in a real industry. It also showed that the technological knowledge they have learned in the course are useful in practice.

We are looking forward to inviting more industrial experts from various reputable companies to give a special lecture for our students every semester.

 

 

Award Winning from RGJ Seminar Series XCII

Dr. Malinee and all the first-year CPE students attended RGJ Seminar Series XCII " Application of Biomass Degrading Enzyme in Industries", hold at King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonbury, Bangkok on January 11, 2013. This activity is a part of the semiar course taught by Dr. Malinee. The students learned good practices and how to make a professional presentation from the real seminar. Dr.Malinee also won the best poster award from this seminar. 

  

 

TGGS New Year Party 2013

CPE students joined the TGGS New Year party 2013 on December 21, 2012.  The TGGS lecturers, staffs and students from all the programs got together to celebrate the coming new year in a cosy and delightful atmosphere. We enjoyed ourselves with mini-games, quizzes, lucky draw, and international foods. This year, we had a lot of Asian foods, and also German foods as we have four exchange students from Germany.
