TGGS New Year Party 2013

CPE students joined the TGGS New Year party 2013 on December 21, 2012.  The TGGS lecturers, staffs and students from all the programs got together to celebrate the coming new year in a cosy and delightful atmosphere. We enjoyed ourselves with mini-games, quizzes, lucky draw, and international foods. This year, we had a lot of Asian foods, and also German foods as we have four exchange students from Germany.

 

 

Walk-up TGGS Building and Lunching Party

The 2012 CPE students walked up the stairs at the TGGS building from the first floor to the top as our tradition and visited the CPE program at the 10th floor on June 15, 2012. During this walk, the students met with the CPE seniors students at 3 different floors and they had to follow their instructions to perform and play many games. After a long exercise, all students and lecturers have lunch together.  Besides enjoying the food, we also were discussing many aspects of the program and experience from the senior students. The lecturers, RAs and students really enjoyed the activities together. 

  

  

 

 

Orientation for New 2012 TGGS-CPE Students

The 2012 CPE students and other new students got together at the TGGS Orientation in the morning on June 13, 2012 where the leaderships had welcome all new students and gave the history of TGGS and the study life at TGGS.  Since the Chemical and Process Engineering as one of 5 programs in the Mechanical and Process Engineering Department (MEPE), the students had additional Departmental Orientation in the afternoon.  As an acting departmental head, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tawiwan Kangsadan introduced all coordinators, lecturers, RAs and secretaries of MEPE to students and presented the TGGS study regulations (REM), internship guidelines and other important procedures. 

   

 

TGGS Temple Day

Besides study hard on the Master program to be a good engineer, CPE students must also have the morality and religious heart.  So, TGGS organized the cleaning temple activity at the temple in Nonthaburi for all students on the morning of May 21, 2012.  CPE current and senior students and Dr. Tawiwan had joint this event. 

 

 

Industrial Workshop on Design of Extraction Columns and

Settlers Based on Single-drop Experiments and Simulation

In addition to the Block Lecture, Prof. Pfennig gave the industrial workshop in Design of Extraction Columns and Settlers based on Single-Drop Experiments and Simulation from February 13-14, 2012. This workshop had well received from industries such as PTT GC and SCG Chemicals and Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR).

 

 

 

Block Lecture on Introduction to Separation Process

by Prof. Pfennig 

For this academic year of 2011, we were honored to have Prof. Dr. Univ. Andreas Pfennig, the head of Institute of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology at Graz University of Technology, Austria (former head of Thermal Process Engineering at AVT RWTH Aachen University, Germany) to give the block lecture in Introduction to Separation Processes from February 6-10, 2012. Prof. Pfennig’s Research Group focuses on thermal separation processes, such as liquid-liquid extraction and distillation, as well as with mass transport in interfaces. His staff has about 40 people between scientific and non-scientific personnel. He has published around 60 papers, as well as several monographies and a book on thermodynamic, and gave presentations in numerous congresses worldwide. Addition to TGGS-CPE students, researchers from Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) had been participated in his block lecture.  Ms. Pornprapa Chuttrakul, Ph.D. assistant of Prof. Pfennig was giving the tutorials to students.

TGGS-CPE New Year Party 2012 and Big Cleaning Day 

We also had our own CPE New Year 2012 Party at the restaurant called Shabushi on December 28, 2011 after the Big Cleaning Day in the morning.  The TGGS lecturers, staffs and students from many years had spent couple hours in the morning to clean our workshops and laboratories to start off the new year.  Little exercise was good for us and got us ready for the all-you-can-eat lunch at Shabushi. 

    

 

TGGS Get Together Party 2012

The New Year 2012 Party was held by the new TGGS Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prayoot Akkaraekthalin, on December 23, 2011.  The TGGS lecturers, staffs and students had enjoyed many show activities from the students, Bingo game and also lucky draw for special gift.

KMUTNB-Thai Germany Relationship at KMUTNB on

November 30-December 2, 2011

HRH Princess Maha Chakri Srindhorn had graciously presided over the Grand Opening of the TGGS Building Ceremony and The Commemoration Exhibition Celebrating the 53th year KMUTNB-Thai Germany Relationship at KMUTNB on November 30, 2011. HRH Princess Maha Chakri Srindhorn had observed the exhibitions on the 1st Floor (by KMUTNB), 3rd Floor (5 programs:  AE, ME S&D, MME, PE and SSE), 4th Floor (CE and EPE programs) and 10th Floor (CPE Program).  During this visit, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tawiwan Kangsadan (TGGS-CPE Coordinator) presented an overview of all the research and activity in our program and all the lecturers, co-researchers with CPE and selected students presented their individual research to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.  This exhibition had been extended to all audience until December 2, 2011.

    

 

Prof. Petzny Block Lecture in November of 2011

Prof. (Hon.) Dr.-Ing. Wilfriend J. Petzny, the former Managing Director at BP London visited TGGS, KMUTNB in November, 2011 to give a very practical block lecture in “Oil Refining and Petrochemicals, including Biomass to Fuels” and “Project Management” (in the Chemical, Petrochemical and Refining Industry).  The block lecture was held from November 28-December 7, 2011.  Addition to TGGS-CPE students, employees from PTT Research and Technology Institute, PTT Chemicals and SCG Group had been participated in his block lecture. 

  

 

TGGS-CPE 2010 Students Go for Thesis in Germany

There were 4 TGGS-CPE students went to Germany for the MS Thesis at AVT from October 2011 to March 2012.  Ms. Anoma Chutrapukdeekul and Ms. Kanokkan Anusarn will be working on “Residence-time measurements in single drop cell with Kühni compartments” and “A study on the influence of ions on the sedimentation behavior in a high-vicious system”, respectively, at AVT-TVT with Prof. Pfennig.  Mr. Ekkaphong Sang la-iad will be working with Prof. Marquardt on Computer-Aided Integrated Design of Chemical Reactor and Reaction Solvent.  Whereas Ms. Katayachalee Sattyakijkajon will continue with the thesis work with Prof. Wessling on Cell immobilization with membrane emulsification in January 2012 after completing the internship with The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) at U of Halle Bodenbiogeochemie in Germany from October to December 2011.

 

 

 

European Biotechnology Congress 2011 in Turkey

Asst. Prof. Dr. Tawiwan Kangsadan and Ms. Siriporn had been participating in this conference from September 28 to October 1, 2011 in Istanbul, Turkey.  Dr. Kangsadan gave the presentation in the topic of “Value-added utilization of crude glycerol from biodiesel production by microbial synthesis of polyhydroxybutyrate-valerate” whereas Ms. Puangubol presented in the topic of “Production of bio-oil by hydrothermal pyrolysis of food waste over ceria catalyst”.  In addition, the topics were published in CURRENT OPINION IN BIOTECHNOLOGY.  22(1)

 

 

Religious Ceremony for TGGS-CPE

Thai people believe that to have a bright future, especially when you are moved to the new house or new building, you should receive the blessing from the monk and have a religious ceremony.  Since we have been permanently moved to the 10th floor of TGGS Building and well equipped with equipments and instruments, we decided to have the religious ceremony on August 19, 2011.  Nine monks performed this Buddhism ceremony.  Besides TGGS-CPE lecturers, staffs and students, we invited the leaderships, TGGS lecturers and staffs for this special occasion and had lunch afterward. 

   

 

 

Activities for New 2011 TGGS-CPE Students

The 2011 CPE students got together with the CPE senior students and lecturers and other new students at the TGGS Orientation on June 6, 2011.  Later, we had our TGGS-CPE Orientation. The activities during this day were:  Dr. Tawiwan presented the overview of TGGS-CPE and our activities.  After that the 2010 CPE students walked up the stairs (TGGS-CPE tradition), leading by Dr. Tawiwan and Dr. Suksun, at the TGGS building from the first floor to the top and visited the CPE program at the 10th floor for the tour of our program. During this walk, the students met with the CPE seniors students 3 different floors and they had to follow their instructions to perform and play many games. The lecturers, RAs and students really enjoyed the activities together.

 

 

 

 

Mr. Kittikum Sricharoen went to AVT, RWTH Aachen

University

Mr. Kittkin Sricharoen (Mr. Panda) had been selected to do his MS thesis at AVT-CVT, RWTH Aachen University with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Melin.  Mr. Abdu Said will be his supervisor during this 6 month period.  His thesis will be related to the electrodialysis.  Many friends took him to the airport and saw he left on April 1, 2011. 

    

 

Prof. Modigell Block Lecture in March of 2011

 

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Modigell from the Chair of Mechanical Process Engineering gave a block lecture in topic of Air Pollution Control from March 6-9, 2011. This was his fourth time at TGGS-CPE and second time for giving this lecture.   Also, Mr. Paul Bandi, his Ph.D. assistant gave the tutorial sessions to our students.

Prof. Modigell was also a representative from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, RWTH Aachen University attending the 2011 TGGS Council Meeting on March 7, 2011.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Melin from the Chair of Chemical Process Engineering gave a block lecture in topic of Membrane Processes from February 16-25, 2011. This was his third time at TGGS-CPE.   Also, Mr. Marco Scholz, his Ph.D. assistant gave the tutorial sessions to our students.

 Addition to TGGS-CPE 2009 and 2010 students, M.S. students from Chemical Engineering department in the Faculty of Engineering, Lecturers from other universities and employees from SCG Chemicals had been participated in his block lecture. 

   

During the block lectures, Prof. Melin visited Thai and German companies such as SCG Chemicals and Bayer Thai to seek for the collaborations in the internship program and research.  This will strengthen our TGGS-CPE program. 

 

Prof. Melin and Mr. Scholz had joined the dinner banquet for the 52th anniversary of King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok on February 17, 2011. 

   

Besides the academic, Prof. Melin, Mr. Scholz, Dr. Tawiwan and TGGS-CPE students took a Buddhism Day Trip on February 18, 2011 which was Makha Bucha Day to the old capital city of Thailand, Ayutthaya Province.  We visited many places such as the Bangsai Arts and Crafts Centre of H.M. Queen Sirikit of Thailand, Bang Pa-In Palace, Wat Mongkhonbophit Temple, Wat Phrasri Sanphet Temple, Wat Phananchoeng Temple and Wat Chai Wattanaram Temple.  We also enjoyed the ride on the elephant visiting around temples in the afternoon.  In evening, Prof. Melin and Mr. Scholz also enjoyed the scenery along the river of Ayutthaya with Dr. Tawiwan and TGGS-CPE students and very nice dinner.  

    

  

  

    

  

 

 

CPE Happy New Year 2011

We also have our own CPE New Year 2011 Party on the 10th floor on December 27, 2010.  The TGGS lecturers, staffs and students from many years had enjoyed lunch and time together.  For this party, Dr. Tawiwan for the first time had prepared spaghetti, salad and garlic bread for everyone.  After the lunch, students were singing Karaoke.

   

             

 

TGGS Christmas and Happy New Year 2011

The New Year 2011 Party was held by Prof. Dr. Banleng Sornil, TGGS Director (Thai) on December 24, 2010.  The TGGS lecturers, staffs and students had enjoyed many show activities from the students in each program, games and also exchanged the gift.  The activity from the TGGS-CPE Students was the singing love songs by Ms. Kanokkan and Mr. Ekkaphong, in which the students had changed some lyrics to something related to CPE courses.    This received a big laugh from the audience.

New Staff Member- Miss Sujaree Kachenpug

Miss. Sujaree Kachenpug has been working at TGGS-CPE as the engineer/research assistant since December 1, 2010. She is our alumni, just graduate from our program in Summer Semester of 2009. Her M.Sc. Thesis was on “A Study of Mixing Behaviors of Triolein Oil and Methanol for the Development of Biodiesel Production Unit via Two-Step Heterogeneous Catalytic Continuous Process” which was sponsored by PTT Research and Technology Institute. She has been responsible for many research projects with the government and company. 

  
   

Congratulations to KMUTNB Graduates

Our TGGS-CPE students attended the KMUTNB Graduation Ceremony on November 11, 2010 and received their B.Eng. and M.Sc. diplomas from HRH Princess Sirindhorn.

  

 

20th Anniversary Thai-French Innovation Institute on October 22-24, 2010

HRH Princess Sirindhorn opened the Thai-French Exhibition at KMUTNB on October 22, 2010 which was a part of the celebration “20th Anniversary Thai-French Innovation Institute”.  Dr. Unalome Wetwatana (TGGS-CPE Lecturer) and Dr. Tawiwan Kangsadan (TGGS-CPE Coordinator) presented their research projects at this exhibition.

1. Catalytic Steam and Autothermal Reforming of Used Lubricating Oil (ULO) over Rh-and Ni-Based Catalysts by Dr. Unalome Wetwatana.  This project is funded by JGSEE.

 

 

2. Inactivation of Microbial Cells in Coconut-Juice using High Electrical Field Pulse Technique for Sport Drink by Dr. Tawiwan Kangsadan in collaboration with Asst. Prof. Dr. Sasithorn Kongruang from Biotechnology Department in Faculty of Applied Science, KMUTNB and Asst. Prof. Srawut Kleesuwan from Electrical Engineering Department in Faculty of Engineering, KMUTNB.  This project is funded by NRCT2010.

This was his sixth time at TGGS-CPE. Also, Mr. Florian Buchbender, his Ph.D. assistant gave the tutorial sessions to our students.

U-IRC Seminar on June 18, 2010

2008 TGGS-CPE students, Ms. Jirada, Ms. Kankamol, Ms. Issara and Ms. Chantraporn who have received the UIRC (University-Industrial Research Collaboration) scholarship were presented their internship projects at the U-IRC Seminar on June 18, 2010. The results from their work at the industries were excellent. Our students were interned at Thai and German companies based in Thailand: Ms. Jirada at Cognis, Thai, Ms. Kankamol at H.C. Starck, Ms. Issara and Ms. Chantraporn at PTT Research and Technology Institute.

Block Lectures from Prof. Melin in February 15-22, 2010

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Melin (Chair of Reaction Engineering) gave a block lecture in the topics related to the Product Design in Chemical Engineering from February 15-22, 2010. This is his second time at TGGS-CPE. Also, Mr. Said Abdu, his Ph.D. assistant gave the tutorial sessions to our students and participates from industries.

TGGS Happy New Year

The New Year 2010 Party was held by Prof. Dr. Banleng Sornil, TGGS Director (Thai) on December 24, 2009.  The TGGS lecturers, staffs and students had enjoyed many show activities from the students in each program, games and also exchanged the gift.  The activity from the TGGS-CPE Students was the dance from the Y.M.C.A. song, in which the students had changed the Y.M.C.A. to T.G.G.S.  This received a big laugh from the audience.

    

   
        

TGGS Thai Buddhist Ceremony

TGGS had held the Thai Buddhist Ceremony on December 18, 2009.  There were 9 monks giving the blessing to all TGGS leaderships, lecturers, staffs and students.  We also presented the food and other items to the monks.  At the end, we had lunch together. 

            
 

Dr. Unalome and Dr. Suksun visited in Aachen

Dr. Unalome and Dr. Suksun had been invited to visit AVT at RWTH Aachen University for the work meetings, technical discussions as well as TGGS-CPE development with all five professors at AVT during December 13-19, 2009. During this visit Mr. Dirk Delinski (Prof. Pfennig’s PhD Assistant) helped accompanying the travelling and scheduling of Dr. Unalome and Dr. Suksun.

Congratulations to KMUTNB Graduates

Our TGGS-CPE students attended the KMUTNB Graduation Ceremony on November 10, 2009 and received their B.Eng. diploma from HRH Princess Sirindhorn.            

 

 

New Staff Members

Dr. Suksun Amornraksa and Dr. Unalome Wetwatana have joined the TGGS-CPE as lecturers/researchers since November 2, 2009.  Their expertise will support TGGS-CPE in teaching courses and research.  In addition, Miss. Notsawan Swadchaipong has been working at TGGS-CPE as the engineer/research assistant since June 1, 2009.  She has been responsible for many research projects with the government and company.

TGGS-CPE 2008 Student go to AVT

Ms. Kankamol Boonyarat and Ms. Jirada Pattarawut went to Germany in October 2009 for the MS thesis at the AVT.  Ms. Kankamol will be under the supervision of Prof. Melin and her thesis topic will be in the area of membrane design.  As for Ms. Jirada, she will be under the supervision of Prof. Pfennig and the area of thesis will be in the coalescence of liquid-liquid extraction. 

                
 

HRH Princess Sirindhorn visited at KMUTNB Exhibition

HRH Princess Sirindhorn visited the exhibition at KMUTNB on September 7, 2009 which was parted of the celebration “Fifty years of achievement:  The Golden Anniversary of King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok”.  During this visit, Dr. Tawiwan Kangsadan (TGGS-CPE Coordinator) presented an overview of the Biodiesel Production research to HRH Princess Sirindhorn.

  
         

TGGS-CPE 2008 Student goes for internship in Germany

Mr. Arporn Wongpat went to Germany for the industrial internship at AVT and Cognis on July 22, 2009.  He will be supervised by Prof. Pfennig during his internship at AVT and Cognis.  Then, he will continue with the MS Thesis at AVT-TVT under the supervision of Prof. Pfennig.  The thesis topic will be in the area of solvent extraction.

UIRC 2008 Orientation

2008 TGGS-CPE students, Ms. Jirada, Ms. Kankamol, Ms. Issara and Ms. Chantraporn have received the UIRC (University-Industrial Research Collaboration) scholarship.  This scholarship provides the tuition fee and monthly allowance to students.  U-IRC program was established to create the collaboration between the universities and industries through the industrial internship program and possibly MS thesis.  This objective was also for TGGS.

Students going to Germany

Mr. Peam Cheali had been accepted for the industrial internship Aliseca GmbH, Germany from May 12 – September 12, 2008.  Then, he was under the supervision of Prof. Marquardt for the student project and MS thesis in the area of MINLP Optimization of VRC.

 

Mr. Tanes Sekekul and Ms. Rungnapa Voravichan went to Germany in September 2008 for the student project and MS thesis at the AVT.  Mr. Sekekul was under the supervision of Prof. Pfennig and his thesis topic will be in the area of reactive distillation.  As for Ms. Voravichan, she was under the supervision of Prof. Büchs and the area of thesis will be in the shake flask experiment.

    

Ms. Niramon Cherreeluck went to Germany in October 2008 for the MS thesis at the AVT.  Ms. Cherreeluck will be under the supervision of Prof. Modigell and her thesis topic was in the area of hydrogen production.

       

 

Activities for new 2008 TGGS-CPE students

The 2008 CPE students got together with the CPE senior students and lecturers and other new students at the TGGS Orientation on May 30, 2008.  Later, we had our TGGS-CPE Orientation and 2008 CPE students walked up the stairs (TGGS-CPE tradition) at the TGGS building from the first floor to the top and visited the CPE program at the 10th floor.

 

 

Congratulations to KMUTNB Graduates

Our TGGS-CPE students attended the KMUTNB Graduation Ceremony on February 22, 2008 and received their B.Eng. diploma from HRH Princess Sirindhorn.

  

 

Block Lectures from Prof. Modigell, Prof. Büchs and Prof. Melin in January and February of 2008

Three professors from the Chemical Engineering Department at RWTH Aachen University came to TGGS in January and February of 2008 to give a block lecture. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Modigell (Chair of Mechanical Unit Operations) gave a block lecture in topics related to the Fundamentals of Rheology. The block lecture was held from January 17-23. Also, Dipl.-Ing. Tobias Ginsberg, his Ph.D. assistant gave the tutorial sessions to our. This was Prof. Modigell’s fourth time and Mr. Ginsberg’s first time at TGGS-CPE.

Later in February 11-17, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jochen Büchs (Chair of Biochemical Engineering) gave a block lecture in topics related to the Heterogeneous Reactions and Bio-Kinetics course called the Bioreactor Technology. Also, Dipl.-Ing. Andreas Daub, his Ph.D. assistant gave the tutorial sessions to our students and participates from industries. This is their first time at TGGS-CPE.

Lastly, we had Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Melin (Chair of Reaction Engineering) to give a block lecture in the topics related to the Product Design in Chemical Engineering from February 25-29, 2008. Also, Dipl.-Ing. Florian Krull, his Ph.D. assistant gave the tutorial sessions to our students and participates from industries. This is their first time at TGGS-CPE.

Besides TGGS-CPE students attending the block lectures, we had participants from industries and other lecturers from KMUTNB and other universities.

  

During the block lectures, Prof. Büchs and Prof. Melin visited research institutes and Thai and German companies such as BioTEC, Ajinomoto, Bayer Thai and SCG Chemicals to seek for the collaborations in the internship program and research. This will strengthen our TGGS-CPE program.

Prof. Modigell and Prof. Pfennig were the keynote speakers and chairmen at the 7th International Symposium of High Temperature Air Combustion and Gasification (HiTACG 2008)--HiTACG Sustainable for Bioenergy Development in Phuket, Thailand from January 13-16, 2008.

TGGS held the welcome dinner party at Grand Pearl on August 25, 2007 to welcome both Prof. Pfennig and Prof. Marquardt together with Mr. Usher, the Deputy Director of TGGS (German), Asst. Two professors from the Chemical Engineering Department at RWTH Aachen University came to TGGS in August this year to give a block lecture. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Pfennig from the Chair of Thermal Unit Operations and the German coordinator for TGGS-CPE gave a block lecture in topic of Molecular Thermodynamics and Interfacial Properties from August 20-24, 2007. This was his fourth time at TGGS-CPE. Also, Dipl.-Ing. Murat Kalem, his Ph.D. assistant gave the tutorial sessions to our students.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Marquardt, the Chair of Process Systems Engineering gave a block lecture in the topic of Conceptual and Computer Aided Chemical Process Design from August 27-September 1, 2007. This was his first time at TGGS-CPE. Also, Mr. Johannes Gerhard, his Ph.D. assistant gave the tutorial sessions to our students.

In addition to TGGS-CPE students, M.S. students from Chemical Engineering department in the Faculty of Engineering and employees from PTT Chemicals and SCG Group had been participated in his block lecture.

During the block lectures, both professors visited many Thai and German companies such as PTT, H.C. Starck, SCG, Bayer Thai, IRPC, Cognis Thai and Chevron to seek for the collaborations in the internship program and research. This will strengthen our TGGS-CPE program.

The 2007 CPE students got together with the CPE senior students and lecturers at the Lunching Party on July 4, 2007. Besides enjoying the food, we also were discussing many aspects of the program and experience from the senior students. After that the 2007 CPE students walked up the stairs at the TGGS building from the first floor to the top and visited the CPE program at the 10th floor on July 6, 2007. This will be our tradition for years to come.

    

 

Block Lectures from Prof. Pfennig and Prof. Marquardt

Two professors from the Chemical Engineering Department at RWTH Aachen Univeristy will come to TGGS in August this year to give a block lecture. Prof. Pfennig from the Chair of Thermal Unit Operations and the German coordinator for TGGS-CPE will give a block lecture in topics related to the Molecular Thermodynamics course. The block lecture will be held from August 27-31, 2007 on the Introduction to Process Design. This will be his first time at TGGS-CPE.

 

Dr. Tawiwan visited RWTH Aachen University
Dr. Tawiwan Kangsadan, the TGGS-CPE Coordinator visited RWTH Aachen University from March 31 to May 27, 2007 for work meetings, technical discussions as well as TGGS-CPE development.  This was her second time here in Germany.

Our TGGS Building is almost complete.  It needs to work on the interior.  Hopefully we can set the laboratories and class rooms soon.        

 
 

 

Block Lecture from Dr. Petzny

 Dr.-Ing. Wilfriend J. Petzny, the former Managing Director at BP London visited TGGS, KMITNB in November, 2006 to give a very practical block lecture in Technology Management:  From Research Idea to Production Plant.  The block lecture was held from November 6-16, 2006.

Yuttapong was interviewed by the reporter from Channel 7 TV, Thailand on the success of Mobile Freezer Unit for Raw-Milk.  This was his BS Project work with Dr. Phavanee as his project advisor.
